Australian Guard Brings Experience and Shooting to South Beach

The Miami HEAT have signed veteran guard Patty Mills to a one-year contract, the team announced today. Mills, a 6-foot-2 guard, has spent 13 seasons in the NBA, most recently with the Brooklyn Nets. He joins a HEAT team that is looking to add depth and experience to their backcourt.

Mills' Stats and Career Highlights

Mills has averaged 8.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game over his career. He is a career 40.7% three-point shooter, and he has made at least 35% of his three-pointers in each of the last seven seasons. Mills has also played in 90 playoff games, including 20 starts.

Mills was born in Canberra, Australia, and he played college basketball at Saint Mary's College of California. He was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers with the 55th overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft.

Mills' Fit with the HEAT

Mills is expected to provide the HEAT with a reliable three-point threat and a steady veteran presence. He will likely be used as a backup to Kyle Lowery and Gabe Vincent, but he could also start some games at shooting guard.

The HEAT are coming off a disappointing playoff exit, losing to the Boston Celtics in the first round. They are hoping that Mills can help them return to contention next season.
