Attorney General Maura Healey has sued the ticket resale company StubHub for allegedly deceiving consumers about the true cost of tickets and failing to disclose important information, her office announced Tuesday.

The lawsuit, filed in Suffolk Superior Court, alleges that StubHub violated the state's consumer protection law by hiding fees and surcharges until the final stages of the checkout process, making it difficult for consumers to compare prices with other ticket sellers.

The lawsuit also alleges that StubHub failed to disclose important information about the tickets it sells, such as whether they are for obstructed-view seats or are subject to additional restrictions.

"StubHub has a long history of deceiving consumers about the true cost of tickets and failing to disclose important information," Healey said in a statement. "This lawsuit seeks to put an end to these deceptive practices and ensure that consumers are getting a fair deal."

StubHub did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The lawsuit is the latest in a series of legal challenges to StubHub's business practices. In 2019, the company agreed to pay $5 million to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging that it deceived consumers about the availability of tickets.

The company has also been sued by the state of New York and the city of San Francisco for allegedly violating consumer protection laws.

Healey's lawsuit seeks to force StubHub to change its business practices, pay restitution to consumers who were deceived, and pay civil penalties.
