BBC Acquires Turkish-English Crime Thriller 'The Turkish Detective'
Based on Barbara Nadel's Inspector Cetin Ikmen Novels
Turkish and English Cast Includes Haluk Bilginer and Yasemin Kay Allen
The BBC has acquired the rights to a new Turkish-English crime thriller titled "The Turkish Detective." The series, based on the Inspector Cetin Ikmen novels by Barbara Nadel, will air on BBC iPlayer and TV channels.
The show stars Haluk Bilginer ("The End") as the titular Inspector Ikmen, a heavy-drinking, chain-smoking detective who offers hope and humor in the dangerous streets of Istanbul. Yasemin Kay Allen ("Father and Son") also stars as his partner, Mehmet Suleyman.
The series follows Inspector Ikmen and his team as they investigate intricate crimes in the ancient city. In the first season, they'll be closing in on the notorious Kayra Khan, a ruthless criminal who poses a significant threat to Istanbul.
The Turkish Detective is a co-production between the BBC and Turkish production company 88 Media. The series will premiere on BBC2 in the UK and will be available internationally on BBC iPlayer.
