Rays' Raley makes MLB history with inside-the-park homer
Civale tosses six strong innings as Cleveland beats Tampa Bay
Raley's homer was the first pinch-hit inside-the-park home run in Rays history
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Luke Raley made MLB history on Wednesday afternoon in San Francisco's Oracle Park.
The Rays pinch-hitter became the first player in franchise history to hit a pinch-hit inside-the-park home run.
Raley's homer came in the top of the seventh inning off Cleveland Indians reliever Nick Wittgren. The ball bounced off the top of the wall in right-center field and Raley raced around the bases for an inside-the-park home run.
The Rays went on to win the game 4-2, with Aaron Civale pitching six strong innings for the victory.
Raley's homer was a remarkable feat of athleticism and physics-defying speed. It was a memorable moment in a game that was otherwise dominated by Civale's pitching performance.
